Mine also darken and lighten depending on the mood, but I don´t remember seeing any of mine that dark.
Looking great, Devon!

Decided to do an update/photo shoot

They have been upgraded to the 35g , I find their colors just keep getting nicer with age. It's becoming clear now who's male and who's female and i have a few pairs that seem to be forming but still no real fights. Everyone just sticks to there respective territories for the most part , i've seen a couple bite marks on males heads, and occasional then flaring when they get into each other caves but that's about it.

Looking great Devon! really great!

And you´re starting to have pairs? Lucky you.. My 4 continue to just hang around. No agression, no pair formation, just a nice group of... 3+1 (there´s one that is usually separated from the others)

Those are some amazing fish! Congratulations.

Add keeping snakeheads to my list of reasons why I should move to Canada.

Any idea on the genders of yours yet ?

Mine also all get along pretty well , but when I'm not feeding and when they dont see me watching there are 2 M/F pairs that seem to have claimed caves on opposite ends of the tank.

My 2 largest seem to be female, and both have a male who sticks with them, the males who stick with their females also seem to have started catching up growth wise and are developing wider red bands on the dorsal fin and around the tail.

There are 2 others who are starting to fall behind in growth. One of them i suspect is male and it seems to like hiding alone, the other i belive is a small female and it also hides alone but often near the pair who live on the the left side.
