what type of bichirs are doing it for you? its 99% the endlis doing it in my tank. I had a del that would join the fun sometimes and every once in a while an ornate will jump in. I have two laps in the tank now but i have yet to see them do it. The laps are also the smallest fish in the tank so they may just not feel confident to get away from cover.

is it a bad sign when they jump? i mean like is it tht the tank too small or they dont like the tank?

After a water change I usually listen to the tank for about 30 minutes or so and if I hear any banging then I usually lower the water level if I do hear any. My polys tend to jump a couple inches and hit my glass tops and their noses get banged up. So it's not a bad thing when they jump, but when you can hear it you probably should lower the water level. If you hear they jump and just hear the water splash then that's ok.

does tht mean tht we're not keeping the bichir properly? i nver seen my endli jump btw. but he seriously like want to get away but just does not jump. only bang on the glass ocassionally. lol

I don't think it's improper, but I definitely think you should lower the water level a bit if he's hitting the glass. It would just lessen the damage to his nose.

the glass i meant was the side panes. he nver hurt his nose bfore though. and yeah, i should start lowering the water from now on, as well as keep my cover fully covered as possible.

oh well if he hits the side panes then your water level shouldn't be a big factor he's probably just cruising around the tank and going from one end to the other. I thought you were talking about the covers

nahhh, haha glass covers? pastic covers are better. lol
he would only 'cruise' at one side of the tank only. and yeah, my endli 'cruised' like a maniac at high speed.

Ive seen all of my bichirs at some point do it except my moke and delhezi. However, the most common to do it are my ornate, weeksii, palmas polli, senegal, and koliba lap.
