Okay, so I bought these as wild stalsbergi. Or I had thought.

I bought them at the Wet Spot when these two came in with a wild import of Green Terrors (common orange fins). I quickly saw these two (the only two white finned) and picked them up.

Based on the white fins alone, I knew they were stalsbergi (or I had thought). I've owned them for a few months and then made the Youtube video of what I thought was them courting. They never ended up courting, but that's beyond the point.

I named the title Andinoacara stalsbergi. Multiple people commented on Youtube and here, and no one refuted the name, so I just assumed they were stalsbergi - and didn't think otherwise.

So with the aforementioned courting, asked around to confirm for gender ID's. I was quickly pointed to Alf Stalsberg. You can view his website here.

I linked him to the video while it was still Titled Andinoacara stalsbergi. He responded with a proper gender ID and left it at that.

I then thought of selling the pair to a friend that was fond of them and he thought they were Silver Saum or Silver Seem. So, I emailed Alf again with a request for an ID (same video) and he then realized they were not stalsbergi, but they are A. rivulatus and NOT silver rivulatus.

Just when I thought I knew the difference(s), or at least enough about it, that I had an idea. But now I am all confused. I absolutely thanked Alf for his time and respect his ID, but it left me confused.

I figured to ask the MFK community on their thoughts.

Thoughts? Please un-confuse me. :D

Here is the fish and link in question.

The Scale pattern gives them away. Here is a couple of pics of both species and really concentrate on the scale iridescence.

(A. rivulatus) scales have black centers with green iridescent edges to each scale
(A. stalsbergi) scales have green iridescent centers with green color covering a large portion of each scale

look like 2 female green terrors with white seam

I'd say they're rivulatus as well. Stalsbergi usually have 2 pretty distinct white vertical stripes in the center of their body, which I don't see present in the fish in the video. Not to say that yours aren't nice, because they look great. But I'm inclined to agree with white seam rivulatus.

Ya, at this point, I really don't care what they are. I just want to make sure I label them correctly.

+1 to them being rivulatus. Good info already, but another way to describe it is in rivulatus the black scale markings form horizontal/lateral rows and in stalsbergi the black scale edges form a fish net like pattern. Pretty clear difference once you recognize it and you can see this in the photos posted above.

Thanks for all of the information everyone. So should I called them A. rivulatus or A. rivulatus "with silver fins"?

Wait, what? I'm confused now.

Unless he's refering to Europeans using silversaum for stalsbergi while we use it for the white version of rivulatus ... ?
