Brand new to freshwater fish keeping! pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
is that a FRT. And turtle make more mess than oscars. Way more. If you only plan on feeding that thing scraps of the oscars, you will find him starved.

It is a softshell turtle. Carnivore. Fish-eater. It should not be in that tank and I doubt it is. Not trying to be negative but this thread is kind of ridiculous. Either we are being trolled, which is what I actually think, or people would be going ballistic over most of this if the OP was not an attractive woman. If Ms. Boobs was a guy the attacks would be vicious. Ms. Boobs, if you are real, lose everything but the two oscars, maybe get a pleco, and enjoy your tank. Cheers.

They told me he would clean up after the Oscars and make a great addition. So far all has come true! My friend is a turtle enthusiast too so he can take the turtle when and if there are problems.
You do know wha tthese turtles require right?
They need alot of UVB and UVA Light, so if you cant provide UVB and UVA light, you need to sell this guy.
UVB and UVA Dosnt go trough glass, so you need to put a uv flourescent lamp, in as lightening the in the tank. You need to read up on these turtles, what they eat, and what they require.
You seem to be getting alot of fish without, knowing anything about them, you should definetly read up on the fish, or turtles you buy before buying them.

Maybe i was wrong on the ID, but all turtles need alot of UVB and UVA light to develop their shells, and bones.

I dont know the if this article about the Softshell Turtle is good, so you should try and find something about them, somewhere else too.

I guess the guy that seemed like he knew what he was talking about at petland was wrong. . . He said they don't need a bulb or basking area. They are aquatic turtles, and will scavenge the bottom. Told me how they've brought them in for years and had great success.

I've got rid of the stingray and the catfish. . . The fact I am a female is protecting me from vicious attacks? hm.

I guess the turtle needs to go to my friends slider set up earlier than expected.

Well he is eating all the scraps.. it's hardly 4in across.
When he gets bigger, he wont be able to survive on just oscar scraps.

To my knowledge they do. If there were species of softshell turtle that only grew to 4 inches, it would be all over the trade by now. Try looking up basic information about stuff you buy before buying. It'll make life much easier, trust me.

I am aware. I was just being sarcastic. I noted earlier when it does get larger and effect my water quality I would give it to a friend.

Wow at all the a-holes. She clearly was told faulty info at the pet shop, no fault of hers. We have all been there. If I went by what the closest LFS tells me I would be thinking my Orino pbass can live in a 90 gallon for life, and my red wolf can live in a 20 long. And that a Savannah monitor can be kept in a 2x2 enclosure for life.

The fact she has re-homed the fish that she was told may be an issue shows she wants to be responsible, which is more then I can say for a lot of the newbies I see, on here and otherwise.

If you want something to clean up after the Os Bichirs are bottom dwellers that rarely leave the bottom lest to breach to breathe (like dolphins), some are on a constant hunt for food, there are 0 scraps in my tanks with bichirs after feeding. They also have scales like armor so if you get some beefy ones they'd be fine with the Oscars. Although 120 gallons is the more commonly excepted minimum for larger bichirs a 100 isn't going to be bad. I'd reccomend Ornatipinnis (ornate bichir) or endlicheri.

Don't take the guys with sticks in their bums too seriously lol

I agree. Im just saying if this guy grows up without UV it's gonna have algae bones, deformed shield, that's to small. I think she knows to research fish before she buys them now :D
