Took a gamble on a different looking RTC - thoughts?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Will do Karl! And Paul, I found him up at Greenbelt Aquarium. If we are indeed close to one another, I'd love to check out your bichir collection some time! Mine has grown to 4 recently.

I admit, though it is hard to see in my pics, there is a definite deformity in his tail region. He was a definite oddity in the tank, and was noticeably shorter than everyone else, but I realize that it doesn't mean he's a true short body. Well, time to start growing out another monster. Hope I don't run out of tank too quickly.

Thank for the input everyone, I will keep you posted - also, not that it's a surprise, but the little guy easy VERY well. I sometimes worry he will pop.
I've heard that the short bodyes die of overfeeding often, because they have small organs, so watch out :D!
May i ask what your plan with him is, if he turns out to be a true shortbody :D?

I'm also assuming you asked Oxydoras, about hes bichir collection, because i dont collect bichirs :)

Houie said it well. Stubby but sb? IDK.

I think it is not that their organs are small. Their organs are the same size. It is the body cavity housing them that is smaller than it should be.

It is not a shortbody RTC since the spine in stomach region isn't shorten, just his tail is shorter and bent. That means he is likely will reach the normal RTC's adult size with just few inches shorter, hate to breaking news to you.

I plan to do a very happy little dance; however I'm not holding my breath. The better question is what do I plan to do if he isn't a short body! In that case, I do have a friend from New Orleans who can fry a mean fish.

I wouldn't hold my breath, it's clearly that it isn't a true shortbody RTC. All it has is just a bent tail.
