Lets see your cars!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Other than balance power and economy... in brute power? No. But then again id argue that v8s are weak next to a v10. Ever seen what hennessey performance does to the srt10? Or v12s might even be better... we could go as far as saying why have a v8 when you can fuse 2 into a w16 and push well over 1000hp in factory trim.

And where would you slot a motor without cylinders? I drive a V(none)... and it makes 182 hp per liter... something no piston engine has ever achieved(stock form). The best NA v8 makes 127hp per liter

Last bit of engine info. Did you know on average only 10% of the energy in gasoline is used to propel the vehicle? If advancements made a motor more efficient and got to say 50%, that would take NA motors from about 80hp per liter average to about 400hp per liter and make a 4 cyl civic roughly 720hp... displacement isnt everything. But with enough displacement you dont need efficiency which is key (atleast for muscle cars)

10 &12 cylinders are too big to put in most cars let alone a 16 cyl, people would just hurt themselves with that much power. Good luck buying parts for those motors as well. One of the things that is soo great about V8s is the abundance of parts and ease of working on them.Im no engineer, but I know I personally could put together a V8 that Id happily pit against anything else, including bigger motors, smaller motors, rotarys whatever.

Actual size of the motor isnt really a big issue. Hartge managed to fit a v10 under the hood of an e90 bmw. Many cars roll with inline 6s which are theoretically the same length of v12s. And a w16 is similar to 2 v8s next to eachother sharing a crankshaft.

Point I was trying to make is cars are popular cool because they are so different and represent so many different things about the people who drive them. Dont bash someones 6 cyl camaro because they didnt go for the big motor. And I forget who it was but you might be impressed with what 1.3L can do if its a rotary :)

+1 zoo helping my cousin in law build a "demon", that's what he calls it at least lol. Its a body from a 69 mustang, polished restored and painted burnt orange, we just finished that and we are going to start building the engine. When he said V6 I was wondering why he wouldn't go with an 8 and he explained the same, you can get just as much if not more power from a 6 with the right options

I'm not well versed on engine talk so I didn't understand half of what he said lol. I could take apart and put back together basic boat engines but that's it haha

Let me know if you guys need a few tips or help sourcing parts. I've been in the Mustang world about 20 years. Somewhere in there, I spent a little over a decade doing designing/prototyping and selling of performace parts for the pushrod V6 motors in Mustangs. We've squeezed over 900 hp out of them on the OEM block. There are also alot of cheaper (budget) tricks you can pull to use take-off parts from other Ford motors to make them flow better.

4 cyl, 6 cyl will never outperform a V8 because there's nothing you can do to a smaller engine, you can't do to a V8, and the V8 responds with more power given the same upgrade.

This is actually not true on the Mustang end of it. Pick any year Mustang from 1994 and newer. For the cost difference between the GT and the V6 of the same year, you can make the V6 outperform the GT hands down. The V6 actually responds BETTER to some things (like boost) compared to the big bad V8 counterpart. Other things not so much due to design differences between the motors. IE: Things like a V6 cold air intake, throttle body, any type of spacers, headers etc... don't do much. Those aren't the bottle necks in air flow like the V8.

If you can afford a $1.5 million dollar car such as a veron with a 16 cylinder quad turbo I believe than your last problem is finding and affording engine parts. I also think that most Ppl who buy said cars take some kind of driving school prior to purchase. And I'm sorry but v8's just don't hack it. When you can build a 4 banger that's lighter and simply faster. V8 power plants are for old schoolers, rednecks and stubborn Ppl. That won't admit a Honda could bet there Mustang.
Now keep in mind this is purely my opinion so don't get your big boy shorts bound up.

I love watching V6 and V8 debates (I prefer V8 myself).

But on the other hand, the shop I work at is machining inline 6 blocks that push 3500hp... kind of puts things in perspective...

Dark Rose, which car is this engine intended for?

Along with the size of the motor, you have to consider the amount of weight you would be adding, which would not only make the car handle horribly, but be murder on bushings and other parts.

Point taken, I agree. Im just saying don't holler Muscle car, if you forgot the muscle. Nothing wrong with just a Camaro or just a Mustang.

With all do respect Zoo, why would you even invest in something only to compare it to a stock GT? So you're faster than a stock Mustang, yippee...

Hondas are for teenagers who think loud = fast and cool. They're really just paydays for real car guys. They're almost as fun as taking money from rich guys who think they can buy car credibility.
