Both are the same family of cat...Marmoratus...their patterns change throughout their lifetime. Also sold as "marble achara" quite commonly.

Thanks... I thought at first they were the same, which is why I attached those old pics of the larger one... then I was thrown back for a minute, but I'm sure now they are the same.

Its fun to watch their patterns change...itell continue to change as the fish grows. Some of the small guys 2-4"can look quite unique but they all end up with more of the typical marmoratus look around 18"

Just like this cute little mug: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...8776-Marble-hi-fun-cat-From-pet-club-grow-out

IMO, it is either a Leiarius marmoratus or longibarbis (recently split from marmoratus). IDK the difference. Neither does PCF. Can anyone point us to a pictorial difference between the two??

I've had ~10 1.5'-2'-ers. Small variations in color/pattern. Only one was real different. Your old one looks to be within the normal range of variation (keeping in mind IDK the difference between mar. and long.). Forget about perruno. No one has it.

They are not predatory but are pronounced scavengers. If given little choice though, can be opportunistic but have to be very hard pressed.

They don't look to be territorial or not much anyway, esp. in an appropriately large tank.

They appear to maintain a hierarchy among themselves but not too terribly viciously, if no one fights back too bad.

The complication is that their maxillary barbels span ~2x their body length. Hence, they have to be kept in tanks with widths of 3x-4x body length.

Well.... I just came home from work to find him ripped to pieces. I'm so f...ing mad right now!!! Idk who did it or even see this coming. I put him in the tank last night n he looked fine at 6am before I left... except his tail was a tiny bit nipped/frayed somewhat, but nothing too bad. There are some 2.5-5" cichlids in there along with a 6" white catfish n 4.5" vulture catfish. Not much left of him at all.... ugh!!! He was roughly the same size of my vulture cat when I put him on 6 weeks ago or so. I really liked this guy...... this sucks.

vultures have a bite like a piranha and can slice fish in half idk if you knew that?

Vultures are equipped so indeed but from all we know, this has never been reported to happen by our regular gang here - anyone know different? It appears every vulture owner is caught by surprise themselves by their vulture's good behavior.

And it would have happened at night - strong catfish aggression (of any kind - predatory, hierarchal, territorial) mostly, if not almost always, happens at night (unless fighting for the same hidey-hole). The fact that it happened during the day points at the cichlids who rely on eye sight for their activity of any kind.

Yea... I knew they had a nasty bite, but idk if it was the vulture. I mean it is only 1.5" bigger... plus shows zero aggression. The white cat, who has a huge ole head, is a bit more aggressive n my son seen him eating the already dead marble before I got it out. I still think it was either of the four 4-5" cichlids. Prolly one of the amphs to be honest... either the amarillo or one of the midas. Just sucks.....
