What type of catfish is this??

Sorry.... I forgot some on here may not be too familiar w trimacs. Trimacs can be brutal.... def a rough customer, but the thing is.... he is only 3" n I didn't think he would have been the one.

The marble is swimming around n looks a bit less stressed today.... I hope it does not get any infections tho. I think it will make a full recovery....

Lol I used to breed Trimacs and they are brutal. I underestimated a juvenile male that I had separated from the parents. He was about 2 1/2" and just for a couple hours, I housed my Xingu pleco with him...He shredded my poor Xingu. Luckily the Xingu lived but he was NOT a happy camper for a week or two afterwards.

My vulture is Mr nice guy to any living fish in his tank but if it's dead it's his! My 10" Black Belt killed my 7" Cuban one day out of the blue while I was at work. Came home to find literally half of the Cuban gone and it looked like scissors took his lower half. The vulture bites so clean that that it looks like the fish was cut with a knife. IME, they have very little aggression but definitely live up to their name.

Very interesting info. Thanks. Have you got any photos or threads on this occurrence?

No I didn't think to take pics of the half Cuban. Lol. I may still have him in the freezer as it wasn't too long ago. If he's still there I'll snap some pics. :-)

That may very well be what happened... I'm sure the Trimac killed it, but its entire lower half was gone... pretty clean cut too.

That Trimac is absolutely destroying one of the crayfish I threw in the tank... he keeps getting mad at the White Catfish because it keeps trying to get the crayfish, lol.

As for the Vulture cat... he does not take anything from the cichlids... he will turn around on them and give it right back a little bit...

I got the Marble to eat an earth worm today... he looks fine too, except that he is missing half his dorsal. I hope after 4 or 5 months I can remove the divider and re-introduce him to the rest of the tank....

Very interesting. I've never come across this observation. Cannot be a coincidence. It'd be nice to see some good pics but this is already a nice bit of knowledge for me. And it makes sense why they are so well behaved with live tank mates. I guess this is another reason they are called vultures and machetes.

Again, I didn't see it eat any of the marble, but it was a fairly clean cut tho... about 1/2 of the body (lower half) was missing. Never thought to get a pic at all. It was also missing all its barbels and one eye too, so I'm sure the cichlids were picking at it too.

Right. That's why I said it is unlikely a coincidence between your case and MTBjake's, and that likely the vulture bit him in half.
