Fishing season 2k14!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's illegal to fish for Predatory fish in Holland during the months of april and may, so I switched to carp fishing on the surface with a piece of bread.
It really fun to do and carp really put up a decent fight.
Biggest one so far was 23lbs.

Here are the pics:

Could you expand a bit on those rules? What is considered a predatory fish. Would a fish such as a crappie be considered predatory? If you have those over there haha

Finally got a break in the weather today so I got out for a few hours. Caught 3 Rainbow Trout, 2 Pumpkinseeds, a bluegill, and a monster 18" 4 lb (yes I weighed and measured it) sucker of some kind (please ID if you can).

Depends, What kind of bait you are using to hook the crappie:eek:

The rules are created to give fish like pike and zander some rest during their breeding season.
Pike and zander usually breed in really shallow waters(1ft deep).
In these shallow waters the breeding fish are really easy to locate which makes fishing for them real easy.
So our government decided to put a ban on fishing for these fish in their breeding season so that the fish can help build op a new healthy generation.
They created this ban by creating laws about bait use.
It's illegal to use any artificial lures, fish or other animals or pieces of them as baits.
The only exception being maggots and worms.

I'f the local law enforcement's catch you using a piece of fish of bait or casting with a lure.
They while fine you instantly €250 and will probably take away your fishing materials.

Even though I totally agree with these rules as they are described above, there is one strange paradox.
Our local commercial fishermen are allowed to continue to fish for pike and zander, and they usually place their large nets in the same shallow area's.
research has shown that the biggest decrease in zander and pike populations are due to over fishing and poaching during the periods of April and May.

thats too bad flemming. We are having similar issues on our local rivers here with trophy cats. We have strict rod and bag limits, while the commercial fisherman take as many as they can. Sad thing is that they end up in pay lakes to be caught over and over til they die.

you guys have the same rules as us in Michigan, March 15- last Saturday of April on non-Great Lake waters where no one can use lures and minnows to target pike, walleye (basically zanders), and bass. plus that sucks that commercial fishermen get to do that, while regular fishermen can't even target them. I love how the Great Lakes and the waters of Western Europe having basically the same kind of fish (perch, walleye/zander and pikes.

Aren't they selling the catfish for consumption?
Sad to hear. I am really anti-netfishing and believe fishing nets that are over a a few meters in length should be banned worldwide.
Commercial fishing maybe an outcome for those who fish, but commercial fisheries is really damaging most targeted species.

Love that to about the northern region of the US!!!!
It's a sad thing we don't have lmb, musky or cats.
Weird thing is that your northern pikes don't seem to get as big as they do here.

Fishing today was awesome! ALthough the weather kept chaning from downpour to beautiful clear sky so there was that :). Caught 10 Bluegills from 7 to 9 inches (yes I measured bluegills) and 6 Largemouth Bass, four of them were 12" and two were 8".

weather finally cooperated and got out to the bluewater for some jiggin and bottom bouncing. no love from Mr. grouper and all around very strange day on the bottom. Marked more fish and bait than you'll hardly ever see but the bite was real slow. Caught at least a dozen nice Ajs up to 30# with a couple grown ones making it home to the wreck with our jigs and a 25# cobe saved the day. Mr. Grouper stayed home and didn't show his face but I know he's down there ;\5-3(1).png5-3(2).png5-3(4).png
