Cat saves boy from being mauled by dog

Oh it's the owners fault but that dog needs to be put down. Dog bites usually have multiple variables. Child bites are usually a mix of parents lack of supervision and or child doing something that elicits a bite (ie getting in a dog face or approaching it incorrectly or at the wrong time.) I saw nothing in that video that should elicit a aggressive response from that dog. The dog simply walked up to the child and went in. Any animal that reacts like that without provocation is not safe and lacks a sound temperament. For the simple fact it attacked without provocation is grounds for euthanasia. I'd do it myself if they let me.

that's part of being a "responsible "owner...know the dog , and react accordingly to it's behavior

Hello; I suppose that you are speaking in the legal sense of responsibility. The dog in the video was acting on it's own and seemed very deliberate in it's actions. In my book that makes the dog responsible. The owner did not keep the dog confined, but the dog did the act and is indeed responsible.

I think you may be the first to come to the dog's defense in this thread.
no.... legally AND in every other way , your dog goes next door and attacks a kid ...that's on YOU

Hello; Please be more clear. This reads as thou you mean that the dog has no responsibility at all to do with the attack. Only the owner is 100%responsible?
My guess is that the dog had the kid's blood on it's mouth, not the owner. The owner is 100% legally responsible, but the dog decided to attack a child for whatever reason.

Yes but it is the owner fault through negligence and allowing animal that if I had to guess has previously show aggressive tendencies or lacked training, socialization, or good breeding.

Hello; That the owner is at fault legally/morally for not doing whatever was needed to control the dog is understood. However the dog did not have to bite the kid, but made the decision to do so all by itself. My guess is that the owner will be in a legal mess over this, but the behavior of the dog is a separate issue.

The dog did the deed. The dog could have gone up to the child and licked his face. The dog could have walked on down the street. Thedog decided to attack a child. Looking at the video I saw the child, the dog and the child's mother. I did not see anyone else.
The dog appeared to ACT on it's own. That is the critical point.

the thing is ..the dog should never be in a position where it ca go next door and attack a kid, that's on the OWNER... if your dog displays any signs of this type behavior ,it's on you ...if you aren't sure if that's it's nature ,it's on you...if it bites somebody that it isn't supposed to (that case being an intruder / attacker) it's on you ...there are no exceptions albeit it is possible for mitigating circumstance (first time behavior) in AMOUNT of culpability....

Oh it acted on its own but I however will not blame a dog ever. That's just me. Humanity choose to domesticate and breed our canine companions, we choose to make the varied breeds, we choose what behaviors we want, we choose to breed animals that lack good qualities, we choose to allow these animals to roam at large and commit such acts. Did the dog act of its own will yes. But it's a animal not a human they do not have the same thinking we do. The mind of a dog is way more complex then people give it credit for. There are hundreds of I know variables we won't know and never will. This dogs background is unknown to us the public and for all we know its owners. I can only go off what I see. And what I see is a animal at large which is illegal in many places and a child which it proceeds to bite, that's all the availed info I have but based off this info I can form a opinion about what should happen to the dog and who's responsible and in my eyes it's ignorant, negligent owners, not the dog.
