Tankmate for Oscar and Male dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im not gonna get the devil. I turned in a veija a few months ago and he is about 5-6 inches. He is also still at my lfs. Would he be a good fit eventhough he is larger then the O?

viejas can be docile or evil...it's a bit of a lottery , safe bet is don't do it...get a smaller cichlid ...a 7 inch fish and a 3 inch fish hardly ever fight because BOTH know who's boss... I have a 10 inch black belt and a 4 inch con in a 75..tough to do , but they already have a pecking order...if I was to get 2 6 inch cichlids it would most likely be ww3...you KNOW the O will get big, the dempsey will get 8", so all that is left is room for a little guy or a catfish(non-aggressive)

Convicts would work...just take into consideration the size of both, don't want the convict ending up being bait....Blue Acura would be possible too...also if you already have 2 established O's in a tank beware of them jumping 1 new tankmate regardless of species.

I only have one O. The Veija is a Syn. It was labeled as a black belt but it looks just like a Syn

kissing gourami get 12 inch and are pretty cool fish... like a mini gg. green terror are cool, could do a white saum if you want something a little more special. chocolate cichlid is an option, also polleni are cool and very oscar like in their ways. good luck.

The polleni looks cool. I have never seen them around. What other names do they go by?

Paratilapia polleni --large spot
Paratilapia bleekeri -- small spot

I'm getting a polleni possibly this Friday and can't wait.
