Last Saturday I got a beautiful 10" long Midas from someone off craigslist. I have been trying a variety of foods, but have yet to see him eat anything.
I have tried Hikari cichlid gold, Bio-gold+, freeze dried krill, frozen blood worms, NLS, and even algae wafers. All the other cichlids I have had in the past would eat anything that fell in the tank, this guy has me a bit worried. He acts like he wants food (swimming around wildly when I go over to the tank) but ignores any food I drop in there. There are 2 Columbia tets in the tank that he chases around (but cant catch) so maybe he would go for live feeders? I would rather not go the live food route but I am running out of other things to try.

He's likely still acclimating, and not currently viewing food as a necessity. Typically, the older/larger the fish, the longer it takes for them to feel safe and resume eating. I'm sure he will start eating soon.

he will eat, he can go up to 3 weeks with out eating. but dowt he will, present him with a quality pellet and nothing else until he eats them. he may just take one and spit it out, then next day take it, play with but will eventually eat them. do not leave un-eaten food in the tank. pull it out after half hour and try again next day.

A 10" amphilophus can easily go several weeks without eating. As others have suggested, just let him get settled in to his new surroundings. He's not going to starve to death .....

Ok, I will let him get adjusted. He has already decided to move all the substrate to one corner of the tank and while I was vacuuming he kept attacking my python tube. Here is a pic of him in my 75G tank.

He is bad ass. Did he move all that sand haha. When I brought my midevil home (he was 7") he didn't eat for 2 weeks.

Great looking Midas! He'll come around soon enough.

A big water change can sometimes entice fish to eat.

I did a large water change last night, tried to give him Hikari bio-gold+ pellets today and he just ignores them.
He does seem to like to move the sand though, he digs holes all the way down to the glass bottom.
