hole in the head, diet and active carbon

What do you think about this study that found active carbon to be the cure of hole in the head disease?

My lung has had small circular pits around the lateral lines - is this the beginning of the disease and will it get worse? is it completely reversable? There seem to be more of them over the last year as he as grown a lot but they have not got bigger or fused - do you think they will stay small?

My lung eagerly takes algae wafers but perhaps i should put in more veg? do they need training to eat vegetables and what veg do they like? I have taken the carbon out of my external and do regular 40% water changes.

I heard veggies helps with something about the lateral line, I can't remember what. To me active carbon just waste space in the filter. The oscar folk have to deal with HITH disease alot and all they do are bigger and more frequent water changes.

the last time i got the HITH, i just changed a large load of water, cleaned the filter and it went away on its own. clean water is the key though.

In other fish is usually caused by dirty water and stress. However in lungfish regardless with clean water, if it still lucks fiber in its diet it will still develop lateral line erosion or sensory holes to expand.

Hey King, how do you get them to eat veggies? I have had no luck other than algae wafers.

When they go up to surface for hand feeding. Mix the food that it loves to eat along with the veggies. As it progress overtime it will just go for it whenever during feeding time.

guessing it wasnt as simple as that though right? when it starts most people would discover that 'some' people say carbon causes it then remove it aswell as cleaning the filter and doing more frequent water changes.. im not sold on carbon causing it myself, i run carbon and have never had a problem... its dirty water and or contaminants/bad water from the tap or poor diet...

I had other fishes in my tank which had no issues w/ carbon.

I tried carbon AGAIN and my aro began having wierd stuff on the head. Took it out & his head began to clear up
