Yes a PLANTED DOVII tank!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
your last pics are upside down D:

also, YES, I LOVE THIS SO MUCHHHHHHHHH (although if it where me, I'd go balls to the wall and not keep anything potted....I'm also slightly insane like that lmao)

Alright, so your issue is algae covering the plants eh? what plants you keeping, how tall is this tank, what is the light (age of bulbs would be good to know as well), what is the substrate (plain sand I presume?) how is your flow, and how are you fertilizing and what are you fertilizing?

I keep a high tech planted tank with my cichlids in my 75, and I love challenging the idea of plants and cichlids not working. I think this is one of the coolest challenges though, having Dovii and Midas with plants. Because in my opinion, if you can keep those with plants, you can keep any non-herbivorous cichlid with plants. Heck, I've seen some super awesome planted oscar and silver dollar tanks in the past as well, you just gotta have an idea of what to use most effectively.

I want to help make this happen, get your tank as lush as possible with these monsters, its gunna be wickedddddd

I didn't know Dovii's can swim that way, LOL!

Sorry bro, I couldn't help it.

Very nice pair and congrats!:headbang2

If you cut the photo period and algae slows but so do plants and vice versa seems like lighting is high and possible injected c02 is required or Flourish excel is a c02 substitute that can kill/hinder algae, I'd start dosing excel and take it from there!

Lighting is usually the main player in algae and when you hit a certain threshold of med/high light c02 is essential to utilize the photo period!

Its a fine balance, one that took me almost 8-10 months to accomplish! If its not the lighting it may be extra nutrients in the water

More info about your lighting fixture as said above!

I have 72x18x23 135 gallon. The light are 2 Finnex Ray-2 with the dual 7000k daylight "bulbs", or diodes I guess you'd say. I also have 2 aqueon fixtures with 25 Watt T8 fluorescent bulbs. The T8's are on from 9am to 10:30pm. The Finnex come on for 2 21/2 hour periods. One in the afternoon, them another one from 5-7:30 at night. Sand substrate. No ferts at all. I have jungle val all along the back glass and on both ends, java fern glued to driftwood that either melted or was grazed when new leaves came out. PH is 7.8. I have a little bit of pothos growing in cutouts in the tank lid, just 2 single stalks from cuttings off my wife's plant. School me

Start a new thread in the planted tank section, including this information. Also, describe how your lights cycle in the course of the day in detail, I got a little confused with it.
