Need a pic.

even with out a pic chances are it is a midevil. Most these days are mixes between devils and midas hard to find purebred.

looks very red devil to me, call it a red devil or midevil if you want, its up to you really!-) as long as your arnt breeding it i would say rd, got some nice lips on it and great colour!-)

alot of anal people will say ''its not a rd or midas unless bought from rapps or other reputable source so its a midevil'' they will say that in a geeky tone as if they are holding their nose shut and speaking pmsl!

i would call it a rd.... meh!

The difference between red devil/midevil and midas is almost just semantics as far as aquarium specimens are concerned.
If you bought a fish called Amphilophus labiatus this may at least be an indication that it is possibly not be Amphilophus citrinellus.
But unless the fish was acquired as a true one or the other, from a respected source, the ability to discern its true lineage is nearly impossible. And midevil is simply a cross between the 2.
Even in nature they occur in the same waters, although they tend to know who's who's there.

Nope definitely not breeding it. Just sold my jags because they were constantly breeding. .just the little dovii and this guy in the tank for now.i know the red devil will have to go eventually but damn my tank looks empty...thanks for the id.guys

There's a sticky at the top of the page that explains this fairly well. Short read is what Duane stated, there's no way to tell with any certainty just by eye balling a fish.

I don't consider myself anal, and I can't recall anyone ever calling me a geek, but the reality is that if one doesn't have provenance back to a collection location in the wild then chances are with these two species, ones fish IS going to be a hybrid cross. Call it a midas, a midevil, an RD, a mutt, a showstoppa, it makes no difference. Whether anyone wants to accept that reality or not is up to them. But it is what it is.
