Fishing in Florida!!! Load heavy:)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes you will have both but, the LM will not be in the numbers where pbass aren't common. Go afew miles away into the Everglades and it's a different story..LM are quite easy to catch in numbers and sizes.. Btw, I've used Midas for pbass bait and they work quite well so I know they eat them ;-)

That's cool:) I thought it was weird that they wouldn't take Midas.. From my understanding it's still survival of the fittest and whatever can fit I their mouth will;)

Yes oscars are really abundant and the canals are now filled with more exotics than natives by far.. The sunfish are no where near what they were years ago. It's easier to see or catch a cichlid than sunfish.

As much as I love cichlids, this is sad.

with all these people wishing for exotics in their local waters, i hope they dont really do that =D

I agree. Native sp. are important for the ecosystem and very cool. I would hate to see natives wiped out completely.

That is great using midas for pbass bait. Do you keep the pbass or eat them? Someone has to control the populations lol. I bet alligators love cichlid snacks too.

FYI - it reaches -40F to -50F in the winter months where Jason & I live, what are the odds that any of those tropical species would survive a winter in those temps? lol

Some can. Like a lot of CA sp. and some SA. Just because they from tropical countries doesn't mean the water is always warm.

That was MINUS -40F to -50F, not +40 to +50F.

There are no fish from CA or SA that can survive the winter temps up here, or in Alaska where Jason lives, unless they are in a natural hot spring. lol

Very neat, I would love to see underwater footage of all the fish in the canals inhabiting. It would be so interesting.

Where I live, we mostly see green sunfish lol and your typical minnows.

I will be bringing my go pro along next year and will definitely get some Live Action!!:)

RD, I wish they would survive up here lol I wouldn't have to move down there:)

Well MINUS 40 or 50 is a big difference. I thought you were talking about Florida where the water can drop really low for most tropicals. Durring the winters the water can drop to the 50F-60F temps, which some CA and SA fish can tolerate. There is a reason people catch so many of these cichlids. If temps dropped too low they would all die. That is why you will never find any CA or SA cichlid here in PA.

Nope I don't eat them even though I heard they are excellent but, a lot of people do.. It's kinda funny that pbass are the only regulated exotic in Florida cause they released them.. Limit is 2 per day with only one over 17"
