Jason, I was thinking about the fun fishing opportunity, not keeping any of them.![]()
The water in south florida can drop to lower to mid 50's durning bad winter months. Also I know only butterfly peacocks were released in florida but I'm sure there is now a mixture from the aquarium trade.
On another bite nice trip man! I guess I am spoiled down here as I look at all those guys as pest fish hahahaha. Rather grab snook/tarpoon or kings/cobes lol. Freshwater fishing is a just a back plan if weather is bad or I don't have time lol

This is true but the canals are connected to the aquifer which is a constant 72deg. Only the fish that spread out are the ones that die when the temps drop below 62deg. Very rarely will it see 50's in south Florida..

In the 80s Cichla ocell, mono, and temensis. We're released in the South, Florida canals as a sport fish and a predator for all the non natives living an thriving in the water ways. Temensis never made it through the colder months, but thee Ocell's and Mono's did. As a result they interbred and created a hybrid. And now thats what we have swimming around in South, FL.
I call them Florida hybrids
