Very nice Syn with a lot of potential. Yes, they grow incredibly fast. Below are a couple of pics of my male Syn that I bought back in February. His growth has been ridiculous, and is just now starting to finally slow down since he's reached 11". Pics below:

Anybody else seeing Melanarus here or is it just me? I know they have recently been lumped together, but I still think of syns & mels as separate fish. Never seen a Mel with a knot like that!

I agree there is some melanarus. It could be Synspilum + melanarus hybrid
 
I jinxed myself. Now the Syn is repeatly biting and harassing my 10" clown loach. Bite marks all over his face! But, the syn is totally spotless without even a ragged fin. Doesn't harass any other fish. Ugh!

more wood more caves more plants = problem fixed
