Its the male jags that are bigger in size mate females stay smaller , yours looks male due to its pattern and size here's a few pics of my breeding pair View attachment 1024112 males on the left of PIC View attachment 1024113View attachment 1024114
there's a lot less speckles on the female and more gold colouring

thats what i'm saying, maybe the lfs owner got confused and sold the female? the male will still protect the fry, males are usually the bigger ones and have a more pronounce "jaguar" pattern like yours

Erm mines definitely sure its a female. Shes about 17 inches and males just don't get that big. Owner of the lfs bred this jag multiple times and sold fry all over my state. Only reason I know its a female though lol.

Males are typically the larger sex in the cichlid world. In my pairs the male is always bigger and female jags are lucky to hit 15 plus inches let alone 17 while males can and do hit that easily. Males are the bigger ones not the females

Lol stop saying mines a male! Its 100% female. I've seen this jag for over 6-8 months at my lfs and saw the breeding pair along with the word of the owner. Once she was in my care she laid 3-4 times so there's no questions. But I don't know how to tell you a male from female just by looking.

Nooo I'm 100% certain its a female. She laid in my tank a couple of times over the years I've had her.

single male jag protection the young with out a female is more a food hording thing.

kidding kidding!! before you all get in arms. male and females are good parents, this is what has made them so successful in the wild. But, they hang out to long and female ready to spawn again, they will be eaten. by the male.

Male passed after jumping out the tank, that's why the owner of the lfs was selling the single FEMALE jag as he was getting new stock that week. Female was the only one left in the tank. Do you think the female will not protect the young when someone starts poking at the glass? If not you don't know much lol. But you already look like a fool, did I not say that she laid multiple times since I had her? Argue the sky isn't blue some more.
