The pothos certainly decreases nitrates. I have little to no direct on the plant and it still grows well. In fact, it's about the only plant in the house my fiance and I haven't killed hahaha.

Here's a few of my tanks,first up is my 180 in the midst of a water change.I also removed the background finally.Some water had gotten between it and the glass and as annoying as that was I'm just getting around to drying the glass and re applying the background.
This is my 265 that I resealed after it sprung a leak a few months back.I'll be placing the tile back on the bottom and eventually transferring my dats to this tank.Right now there is only a sunfish in there.
My sixty gallon grow out which houses three indos and one thinbar dat.They used to be nice and stable but when I painted the back of this tank black and moved them to it they all try to go invisible on me.They are slowly coming around to the new darker tank.
Wife's Glow tank custom built nothing from the glow company accept a few fish.

We remodeled the house over the winter (gave away all the chiclids and oscars) and are starting fresh with the tanks.
