Panaques and Plywood Tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's the site I've been mainly using, and I guess the origin on L027 just slipped past me. The others that I listed for the Orinoco are true Orinoco though. I'm gonna take a look at Rio Tapajos, see what fish live there.

Just learning the names and L# for these plecos is hard enough, learning the origin is another kick in the nuts.

Wow. I just spent a little time looking, and you're 100% right. Apparently the main species of fish I was gonna use isn't from this area either. I asked a while ago about rio Orinoco fish, never bothered to fact check when some guy said Geo Red Head Tapajos (From the Rio Tapajos). When looking at plecos, I got to L027 and saw that some people call it Tapajos royal, so I went on to assume that this guy was from the same area too. Damn... Looks like this biotope will be largely different, or just end up as a slightly mixed tank. Thanks, I really appreciate it. I thought L418 was from Peru though?

Yes, L418 is from Peru, specifically the Huallaga and Maranon rivers. The L number L027 is commonly used for (at least) 4 separate varieties of Panaque from Brazilian rivers. Panaque armbrsuteri is from the Tapajos, with similar forms (not yet described) found in the Xingu, Araguaia and Tocantins rivers.

Ok, I'll have to keep an eye out to try and price out some of these guys locally. Could you foresee any glaring issues with L075, L091, L128, L200 and some assorted Ancistrus in the same tank?
