Can I keep RBP in a 55 gallon for life?

Look man I said that it can be kept in an 20 gallon but that was an example so people themselves can do the math themselves and yeah they shouldn't be kept in an 20 gallon . And looked up at some major websites and did a lot of research on these fish and I know that they should be kept in groups of 5 or more. And I can't say that Wikipedia is wrong I'm sorry, the growth rate is slow my friends. Go use the internet read it yourself. As far as the keeping two. I told him to keep three because at least the dominate one wouldn't kill the other one. And if he can't then he shouldn't keep them might as well get an oscar

And they do grow to about 12-13 inches.

You stated Piranha not a specific genus like P. Nattereri, the yellow variant (P. Ternetzi) can grow much larger than 13".
 
Okay well I wanted to set up a red bellied piranha tank but unfortunately this is the tank I have to work with. I guess even if the RBP only get to 10" or so it still wouldnt be fair to have that little space for turnaround. I will probably go a different route and look into FW or brackish Puffers instead. Thanks for the help guys
 
But even if i kept two or even one for that matter, with the footprint of this tank wouldnt the fish get too large to move around comfortably?

common sense, not meaning you xkon, but the other poster, a tank 12 inch wide and a fish that gets around 10 inch long, it would get a stiff back within a week FFS.
 
Mr.waynes lets not get into an argument. It's up to Xkon what he wants he could either get african cichlids, or an oscar. There are a lot of things you can choose from. Make community fish tank or brackish water tank with puffers like u mentioned. Goodluck
I didn't know fish get stiff backs as well :p
 
You have a real monster if you have a 12"-13" Red belly in a home aquarium.


As for the OP.. i kept 8 juvies in a 55 gal for several months before upgrading to a 6' foot print.

Id up it 10-20gals if you wanna keep Piranhas...you can probably do it for free..people are looking to downsize all the time..try and find someone willing to trade a 65-70gal for your 55gal. - sounds dumb but people do it.
