HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! These people are literally a day away from starvation in many of the areas. NOT a priority. There is NO rule of law in these areas. Who are going to staff those hospitals? Who is going to protect the construction site from armed looters? Who's going to guard the food/medical/supplies/etc?

Both sounds like a great plan. use troops to protect and fortify while building infrastructure to solve and fix the problems. Teams of trained staff working together. I think we've wasted enough money and resources in these regions and not much has gotten better and now there are generations that hate us. If we are going back to these regions of the world we need to do it right.

I may be wrong but to me it seems the best way to beat this thing is to stay away from it and I mean everyone(whatever happened to quarantine?). Sure supply the bare minimum needed to treat those infected, but no one else needs to be there.

If i called the shots I wouldn't send anything but supplies like you Warborg. But if we're committed to going, we can't half a** it. We should do a thorough job.
From what I've read Ebola isn't the easiest disease to contract. Not like the the flu or cold viruses, measles, whopping cough etc. Is not airborne transmissible.

There's a lot if media hype and fear mongering here. With our current sanitation practices and knowledge about disease transmission I doubt it goes far in the US if introduced.

Hello; I do hope your prediction remains valid if the ebola virus does get into the general population here in the USA. Having attempted to instruct a good number of students about such things as disease prevention and disease transmission, I do have doubts that an outbreak will be so simple to contain. While I prefer your outlook, my experience is that few have the needed knowledge and understanding.

Perhaps at some point, in this or perhaps a dedicated thread, we can list and discuss some disease prevention protocols. I am thinking more of things individuals can do to avoid infection, but a discussion of what we can hope our health care facilities can provide can also work.

I live in a rural area and have little interaction with people since retiring from teaching. I also have rare physical contact with others. It took some discipline over time to train myself to not touch my face before washing my hands after being around other people.

Let us hope we do not have to face this issue. I do share concern about the potential for infection of troops being sent into the contaminated areas. I must assume any that may become infected will be brought back into the states for treatment as well as some amount of routine personel rotation.

A time tested practice in disease control is to isolate (quarintine) infected people if possible. It seems that the local authorities have lost control of the situation. I suppose my comments can be labeled as some degree of "fear mongering", but this is a very serious situation.

Hello; I am now watching a program about ebola on the Discovery Channel with another to follow at 11:00 pm EST. I imagine these will be rebroadcast many times.

Hello; Just looked at it. The implication seems to be that the locals attacked the ebola education center in some sort of riot?

I know many are confident that things will go well if the ebola virus gets into the population in countries like the USA. I do not expect an event such as described in the article. After watching coverage of the riots in Ferguson, MO. a while back, it does seem possible that some form of irrational behavior is possible.

I think you're definitely right to be concerned about hysteria. How we react to something like that could be as dangerous as the outbreak itself.
