There has to be an easier way!

Before I got my water changer (python style) I would siphon water out of a 2nd story window with a piece of hose.

To refill I would do buckets in my utility sink, but I wouldn't lift them to the tank, just drop an old powerhead with 1/2" hose into the bucket, and then to the next. I would use 4 or 5 buckets total and rotate filling them. It was a chore but still easy and not so messy.

Be careful with using a pump and a container to fill treated water. After the tub or bucket is empty and the pump runs dry it can siphon the tank water back down into the container. It happened to me once or twice. Made a small mess. Its less likely to happen if you use a pressure rated return pump instead of an old powerhead. But I couldnt justify dropping $70 on a pump for waterchanges at the time.

Now I still use my water changer to fill my tanks, but I drain my tanks with a 400gph pond pump with a 30ft 1/2" hose. Its much faster, I normally run it to the bathtub or directly outside

I used to use 5gal buckets to refill tanks when I was younger. But I just use the hose now, first syphon out into a 20gal bucket a few times and save water for my plants :)

If you don't already know, use Seachem Safe, its the same as Prime in powder form at a fraction of the price

Thanks! Never would have known. Any special mixing you have to do prior? Or just add to the tank in powder form?

Depending on how far your tank(s) are, you can use a python or a plastic washer machine drain from home depot for about 15.00. The one I have is black and 1.5" diam for fast draining on my 300.
I highly recommend using the old water in some part of the garden. Recycle the old rich water for the plants.

Filling up, I use the python, faucet water close to tank water by touch and add Prime as I add new water per tank volume (including sump).

I have two large containers. The water is treated with prime and heated the night before a water change. When the time comes to fill up the aquariums I just put in a pump connected to a hose. Pumps the water from to containers to the aquariums, no more back pain and a lot faster. Can get cheap pumps on ebay

That's the part I'd have a hard time with how much conditioner to add when... would I just do a normal 50% WC on my 180 and assume that it's approximately 90 gallons I will be treating and just add in the amout of prime or safe for the 90 gallons. I'm sorry if I'm just plain stupid and asking what seems like an obvious question I honestly never don't water changes this way and I just want to be certain.

I use seachem safe and add enough of it for total tank volume when I start putting water back into my tank (straight from the sink).

Can't positively recall, but I think you pre mix and make it by the batches as you need it.

Python if it'll work with your sink. I feel you man, I'm 15 and have lower back problems and I'm using 5G buckets to fill all 9 of my tanks because not one sink in my house will hook up to a python.

You should be able to get an adapter at the hardware store.
