Water change sunday anyone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes i do 75% plus every week, gives me piece of mind. my tank is a dd and about 298 us gallons with 2x fx6's and an internal 500lph and a 1200lph powerhead.
tbf im not way stocked compared to most with tanks my size.
i currently have;
2x 12 inch midas males,
2x 9 inch midas females,
13 inch butti,
12 inch suncat,
10 inch irwini,
12 inch gibby,
and a 16-18 inch wyckii catfish (long and thin catfish..)

what i will add is with this regime all my fish flourish, search through my threads for the festae thread, i grew two festae from 2 inch too over 10 inch in seven months!!! a suppossedly very slow growing fish, its all about the water changes baby!-)

nice pics everyone btw, someone said earlier 'boring have filled tank shots' i personally like the look of tanks as the a refilling, kinda like a pond effect, i find the hose noise kinda soothing too!-)

I would like to start filling my tanks with a hose but am concerned about the chlorine (I am on city water) I cant afford a carbon filter for the house yet once I can I will do a drip system.

For those using a hose are you adding conditioner to your tank before the refill or after?

When I was on city water, I'd just added right when I start the refill.

just front load the tank with conditioner then?

I have a lot of BB in my décor (lava rock) would hate to loose it

yup. works great.
I'll put half in the water, and the other half on something halfway up the tank so it doesn't hit the water right away. there isn't much water left in my tank when I do a change, so I like to dilute the level of conditioner they're exposed to at once.
I also checked my cities ppm's of chlorine so I'm not ODing on the dechlorinator.

Probably be a good idea to have all the filters off (if it isn't already) during refill just to play it safe, and wait 5-10mins before turning I back on.

+1. I also have my powerhead running to circulate the water as I am refilling. I have been doing this for 5 yrs now on city water. I like to have my filters running when doing WC. The only thing I turn off is my heater so the glass wouldn't break due to sudden temp difference

Same here. Been doing it for years now with no incident. I always just add prime before or during the fill up so whatever chlorine or chloramine contact there is it is very minimal

Both Saturday and Sunday are water change days for me. Once in awhile i'll sneak in one or two tanks on a Friday. I use a Python to drain and refill from my tap. I always turn off the filters during wc's and add the conditioner to the tankjust before refilling.
