Ctenopoma in 30 gallon tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I decided to purchase one after all. I picked him up today from petsmart. It was the last one in the tank and I almost missed it because it was hiding inside a hollow fake log. Here's a picture of him "acclimating".

Relatively small. I guess around 1.5" or maybe 1.75. Really small. He's the same size as some of my guppies lol.

Mine too. They were about 1 inch TL a month ago and have gained 1/4 to 1/2 inch since.

I agree with krich that your guppies will eventually disappear, but I'm not one to talk. Mine are housed with ~ 15 swordtails / plates and I know that some will fall to predation, either to the leopards or the African butterflies. Their fry certainly will, that's for certain.

Have you seen yours yawn yet? Startling how large their mouth can get.

Let us know how it goes once it settles in!

O

I saw it yawn 5 minutes after introduction to the tank and the mouth is quite large. I was impressed lol. How long did it take for yours to start eating? And what did they first eat?

PetSmart brings them in so small.I saw some at the PetSmart near me but I passed on them due to the small size.

Yeah that's true. I guess the only real plus to that is seeing them grow up and having them for longer time.

Yeah but in my case I'd have to set up a tank that they can be safe and grow in and they are not the fastest growers. Most of my current fish would eat them.

Yeah, they really compliment and go well with dats when they are big enough.
