What's best for flowerhorns??

market shrimp have always worked the best to bring out the red/orange in FH's. Plus it really helps them grow. This however is not a staple. I feed it to mine twice a week, with a quality pellet being is primary diet.

For me, 99% of my fh's colors seem to come from genetics. No matter what I feed them really doesn't change things too much as far as their color goes. Their activity and general overall health and happiness can change from what I'm feeding, but not really color very much where I can notice it in my brief experience with fh's

I've never had luck with a fh in a bare bottom tank. Their reflection on the bottom glass always spooks them and stresses them out.

It's true, mine were a little more skittish when I went bb. A clay pot and some time, and they were back to normal. I use a brine shrimp net a few times a day, and everything stays nice and tidy.
