Daughter got a 75g for her big xmas present this year. She's got 2 runty oscars that she got from petsmart a month ago in a 20g currently. They were basically buy 1 get 1 for less than 5$, about 1" when she got them with caved in bellies and tbh I thought they would die. She's done well taking care of them and theyve fattened up pretty well I'd say, maybe 2-2.5" now and full round(er) bellies. She's going to grow them out some more yet before deciding which one she wants to keep and one will move in to the 75g and the other will be finding a new home.
So now she's at a point where she wants to get other fish to raise with it as well, as far as tank mates go. She really likes featherfin cats, so would like to get 2-3 of those. She really likes jack dempseys and GT's as well as thor maculipinnis but told her 1 of those would probably max. Possibly a EB acara as well.
When the Oscar gets too big for her tank, in a couple of years, I'll likely move it in to my 125 if I haven't upgraded to a 200+ by that time.
I handle all the water changes and all the tanks in the house get a 25-50% change twice a week and her 75g has a ac110 + eheim classic 2217 on it.
I feel like the combo would work, I've kept GT's in the past and not overly concerned about their aggresion. JD's I have heard are hit/miss and I've heard some horror stories on the maculipinnis, but on the other hand I've heard stories where they arent aggressive at all. End of the day, a cichlid is a cichlid and each one has their own temperament. The above stocking is likely what I'll be doing for her, but I just wanted to bounce off the forum soundboard for any other potential stockings that I could see about interesting her in. She was really disappointed when she found out that the bichirs she liked just got too big for her 75g, so at this point I'm just trying to help her find a few new selections. (the ones I listed above are things she liked after we looked at rapps stock list + aquascapes + a few others)
Thanks for any extra input on stock ideas.
