Firemouth advice anyone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Rams would probs get up to 6" in that!!! And yeah Unratedaccount.... Rams are deceptively strong and have a reputation for cracking plastic or glass dividers

Firemouths are VERY hardy and I've used my female to cycle a few tanks in the past. When it comes to aggression they're mostly all bark and no bite. They do sift sand from time to time. I've kept them with peaceful cichlids like geos all the way up to mean ones like black belts with not too many problems.

Overstocked as ****. It's 1 neon tetra per 400 gallons filtered by 5 Fluval FX6s, 10 Eheim Pro 3 2180s, 5 sump/wet dry filters and 20 sand filters you fool!

No! That setups only good for a .25 inch neon tetra fry for a growout duration of 2 hours! You sir are the fool!

Haha loving the overstock jokes. People on here can be a bit silly :) Firemouths are very cool cichlids, the males can grow into beauties! I'd keep them on black sand to make the orange really pop.

Now if I could only get my hands on a larger tank lol.

How does one maintain sand? Tried it once, didn't know you need to stir it. I've always done bare bottom tanks because ease of maintenance. You can't vacuum sand...can you?

Sand is fairly similar to bare bottom, but you cannot vaccum sand as it will be siphoned out. I find it better and far more clean as it does not gather a ton of nasty poop and gunk like gravel (which is why I stopped using gravel)
