Oh man, you tell girls on dates that you have cats? Id say that scores even higher on the weirdness scale than fishkeeping.

Did you read the last paragraph of his post?? You think CATS are weird after reading that??? YOU'RE WEIRD!!! :/

I just feel like every common fish keeper has a Oscar there at almost every fish store. I kept them for a good 5 years but grew to strongly dislike them they are so messy and destoryed my tank on a daily basis and ruined many heaters so I guess with that being said they are monster's ditructive ones..lol there just to common for my taste but this is just my 2 cents if u like Oscar's then more power to you I'm nobody to tell anybody what is cool and what is not, I just know what I like.

Plus not to open a can of worms, but Oscars are common for a good reason. Not buying them because of how widespread they are is like saying you really love your car, but are going to change to an inferior car; just to be different lol.

I just like rare fish thats all and I hate messy fish and in terms of messy fish Oscar's are on the top of the list along with a couple others I reallu dont like cichlids in general I have a couple but only rare ones 2 electric blue jack Dempseys and male green terror with crazy coloration but thats it .

I just re-read it and realized I kind of blocked it out the first time. I remember thinking I just didnt even want to deal with it. But goes to show that single guys with cats maybe live up to their stereotypes. I really hope thats not the case with fishkeepers and Im just unaware of my weirdness the way cat guys are.

I don`t have cats I am allergic to them. It was an example of what a girl would say when I tell them I have an aquarium.
Might want to practise your reading skills buddy

Agreed, theres a reason the Oscar is so ubiquitous and hyperpopular as wet pets, and thats why theyre the peoples monster cichlid. Sure, some will turn their nose to them in favor of newer and rendier fish, but pound for pound, gallon for gallon, nothing beats an oscar an a big tank, nothing even comes close.

Was the 20 minute conversation you mentioned earlier an example as well or did you really hold the topic that long ;)

Completely agree, no matter how popular it is to jump on the umbee/festae/dovii trend bandwagon nothing compares with a well looked after happy oscar in an appropriately sized aquarium.

Saying nothing compares to a Oscar's is kinda dramatic if u were to ask people on this forum name your top ten favorite fish or dream fish I dout Oscars would be on the list for most people

I know that Oscars are one of the first fish that come to mind when the words monster cichlid are brought up, thats the true test. People will always want the latest greatest but I bet if people could only keep one monster cichlid for life it would be an Oscar in the majority of cases.
