aquascape opinions 300g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just purchased a similar sized tank (30" high instead of 26") and I'm going with the decorations on either side instead of the middle

Grats man! Its tough to find tanks this big at reasonable prices. My next will definitely be a diy :D

Thanks
The tank wasnt cheap at all since I got it new. It comes with a life time warranty and delivery which is mainly why I got it. If I lived in my own house I wouldve defenitely searched for a used one but since I'm 13 and live with my parents, i just had to save for a while (im talking years) because if 300 gallons of water and $2,000 worth of dead rays got on the floor of my parent's finished basement without any kind of warranty on the tank, I dont think I'd be living in that house much longer:D

IMO the way you have it now is perfect. It leaves just enough swimming space to the left and middle parts of the tank for the gar while providing cover for the smaller more timid polys. What I found cool is that when I put a relatively large piece of driftwood in the tank the more timid polys would come out from hiding in the back and start laying on or underneath the log in shaded areas. So if I were you I wouldn't plant anything under the log or in front of it, because if yours do like mine did and hide underneath it in the shaded areas, then you'll be able to see the more timid polys in plain sight.

Some further amendments:CAM05457.jpgCAM05447.jpgCAM05444.jpgCAM05438.jpgCAM05457.jpgCAM05447.jpgCAM05444.jpgCAM05438.jpg I still have a bit more to do before the scape is done, but this will essentially be my starting point. I'm going to try to find another large piece of driftwood similar to the piece on the right. I'm just so damn sick of that stump lol.

It might not look like it, but there are 24" between the front of the stump and the glass. Having 36" of width to work with is wondrous.

Should see my 180g right now. Nothing but substrate and some random large/ugly pieces of driftwood I got in a trade last year. Theyre all pacing around furiously.

thats exactly what I thought. Do you ever have any problems with insects or such critters getting into the house and making homes of the plants? That would be one of the only reasons I don't have plants in the house, is because of the fear that they'll be a home to bugs and such.

The house is a three bedroom with 150-175 plants. We have mini gardens in every room :D Every so often we find a bug, but no more or less than in any other house. Living with plants all around has a really soothing effect on the mind.

the bigger fear is the plants themselves taking over
