Jack dempsey not eating

Only offer her pellets that you want her to eat everyday (I'm assuming the other fish are eating these pellets). Eventually she will take the hint that bloodworms or frozen brine will no longer be part of the menu. If she is occasionally taking shrimp pellets, offer that every 7th day.
This sounds pretty reasonable. How much should I be feeding my tank of pellets? I'm still not adjusted to how much I should be feeding them. I've got 2 blood parrots a arowana 2 pbass a pleco and the jd being the biggest at 6-7 inches.

How many days should I wait before feeding them again? I've actually never heard the quote. Lol. I might try this but i'm not sure. I'm not a fan of punishing the rest of my fish just because my JD is being picky. Will the rest of my fish be alright without food for that long too?

Feed the other fish pellets that they will eat. This will train the JD to eat the same pellets.

It depends on the size of a fish. For the 6-7" JD, a total feeding roughly the size of a dime (or smaller) once a day will suffice.

A dime being for the jd alone?

Yes, that is the feeding just for the JD...once he starts to eat the pellets. If the belly of all your other fish are visibly rounded (blood parrots will be more difficult to tell), then it's time to stop feeding for the day.

wonder where I have heard that statement (hungry fish is a happy fish) before. but that aside, large cichlids can go an easy 2 to 3 weeks with out feeding if they not imprinted to the food. Very rarely does it take that long. 5 to 8 days the norm. JD are shy fish to begin with, keep the same routine when you feed, do not fuss at the tank, drop the pellets in, and walk away. if not eaten in 10 to 20 minutes pull them and be done with it till next feeding time.

As a whole we as fish keepers over feed big time. fish do not need to eat as much as we plow them with. they not snapping the water when you feed, they over fed. use that info next time you feed and feed no more.

A hungry fish a happy healthy fish.

I also suggest 2 days off a week. no food, here its Thursday and Saturday. Friday is protein night , water changes Saturday, protein=ammonia=nitrite=nitrate, nitrate=water change next day.

Jd still isn't eating. Only thing I put in the tank are pellets. I use sinking and floating pellets...... Any ideas?
