I think we are being persuaded by the wrong people

Scary to think how many people would choose their pets over loved ones....what a world we live in

I don't expect people to share my opinions. I see Bills point, I would love to see extreme ARA's get what they deserve. I just don't see what makes our species better than others. Because we can destroy the planet quicker? Because we know when we're causing others to suffer but do horrible things anyway? If someone can give me a legitimate response for why our species is superior, I'll accept it. Until then I plan to keep my opinions just the way they are. If anyone has a proper reason for why our species is better than others please PM me, we can discuss it there, and stop filling Bills thread up with useless opinions.

Woa calm down kitty no ones opinions are useless
You feel the way you do good for you are they useless because you dont aggree with them ?

Something i dont understand....how could anyone who really believes we are that bad or undeserving to keep pets actually keep them ? A bit hypocritical no ?

Your putting a fish in a glass box but then gonna turn around and have an opinion about the evil pet industry or how cruel people are to animals. You think these fish we keep come from bodies of water that are the same size as our tanks our tanks, cmon stop

Let's just say its because I'm cold, heartless and am given new reasons every day to despise our species.. Also, as far as the whole "blood" thing, blood means nothing. My biological pop I've never met, never want to. The man I call pop doesn't share my blood, yet I love him more than the idiot who does.

Also feel free to call me whatever you'd like, I'm sure there's nothing you can call me that I don't get called daily.

Got nothing to call you, you've been doing a great job of labeling yourself. I agreed with your points up until you threw in you'd stand by and watch someone abuse a minor. Lost me there. PETA approach, going to the extreme to prove your point.

First of all I have no problem with people keeping animals as pets. Most pets live happy long lives that they wouldn't of otherwise had if they weren't pets. I have a problem with people who buy a brown hamster, give it to Jimmy for his birthday and when it dies two weeks later because Jimmy didn't feed it, going and buying another brown hamster to replace it, when it would have been easier, cheaper and better for the poor hamster's if these people had done there research first, and mum/dad had made sure it was being fed.

I don't think opinions are useless, opinions have done some great things for all species. What I should have said was "PM me so we can stop filling bills thread up with opinions that are getting us nowhere"

My problem with the pet industry is that it enables people like hypothetical Jimmy's parents to unknowingly be cruel (not just live in a glass box cruel, starvation kind of cruel) to beings that don't deserve it..

For the record: I have no problem with responsible people (like most of us are) keeping any animal - my problem lies with those who impulse buy these animals without finding out how to look after them first. And this is most frequently seen in the aquarium industry than any other. How many people go into your LFS once a week and buy a new goldfish to replace the one their kid killed by keeping it in a bowl? In my LFS this happens ALOT.

I don't think I'm being hypocritical, it's just really hard to explain things properly in a place where "tone of voice" means nothing..

I'm guessing this is more aimed at me. I take care of my animals. They're all treated pretty good if you ask me or anyone that's knows me personally. But yes I own animals. But I'm not one of these clowns that goes out and buys something that I do not have the means, experience or intent of keeping healthy.
I know better than most exactly where these fish come from. Most of the fish we keep aren't from in rivers. They're born in a box, bred in a box and live their days out in a box. Unless you're referring to wc fish, which is different. The pet industry is completely trash. You know how many people I had to refund because they killed their animal? A lot. And the majority of pet owners are cruel to animals. I don't know if I should start with the countless amount of hith oscars I euthanized or the amount of bettas I saw returned on the miserable cups they where sold in. Or maybe the amount vast amount of guinea pigs that were donated that had their finger nails digger by into their palms. Or maybe the people that refuse to get their dogs vaccinated as puppies then come to store looking for help. Then because they don't want fork out the money for a vet they get to watch their puppies die slow and incredibly painful deaths.
Don't even get me started on the employees. All levels of employees within that business including the owners. Complete trash.
And the source is to blame just as much as the purchaser.
And then you wonder why these "crazy terrorist" are against pet ownership? I don't know what's more crazy. Being ok with what I just wrote or being so against it that you feel ending the pet trade as a solution to this problem.
It's easy to criticize someone perspective when you can't see things from their perspective.

Noone will ever in my life will tell me my sisters life is worth the same as an animals. I'd kill for my sister. I'd kill for my friends families. I'd like to say I'd take a bullet, but i honestly don't know if my self preservation instincts would let me. For my direct family yes, friends family, not positive. I would not kill or be killed for my dog, i have too much to offer the world still including caring for others. I would cause a lot of damage, best believe, but i wouldn't wish death on nobody for that because their ain't no coming back from that (Biggie Smalls). That rule flies out the window if some atrocity was committed against my family, or if my family was in danger. I know I will recover from a severe beating much better than my 65 year old mom, so I'd rather it be me. I wouldn't risk dying over the dog as much as I love her, I'd try everything short of that.

One thing I want to put into people's ears is that human beings are clever. Remarkably clever. If you take emotions out of the picture and think logically, we can accomplish a hell of a lot. Let me know next time your cat contributes to sending your kid to college.

But I would also like for an osacr to cost closer to 100$ than 6$.
Hate to say it but I believe that is going to be the norm before the end of my lifetime.
