Up date on my Cichla temenis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great bass, how old is he and when did he change from his juvenile pattern to his adult one? I have three in my tank, the largest being right at 30" as well but it still has its juvenile pattern. How are you keeping him well fed? Mine are eating me out of house and home!

He is roughly 4 , .. mine mostly eats smelt or catfish chunks stuffed with pellets . he only eats every 2nd or third day . occasional live crayfish that I keep for puffer or African cichlid when I was culling breeding stock .. African cichlid's make great feeders..they breed easy and you can keep in display tanks.. BTW I am looking for a new home for him..

Tank size is issue right now , he is in a 220 .. I have larger tanks running however they are acrylic and he cannot fit through the std openings in the top of these tanks.. I'm looking at putting him in a temp. holding tank until I can relocate him or the right tank comes on the market locally .

He is a great bass. They are my personal favorite, and I have all the different species available in the trade. They do get massive though and man can they eat. Mine eat mostly pellets but I will give them any fresh or frozen fish that I can get my hands on. My big one will eat an entire whole mackerel every other day easily if I let him. There favorite is live sunfish the size of my palm, but I don't like to feed live at all. They sure are fun to eat but its getting to the point now where I have to put on a rain jacket cause I get so soaked when they eat!

rlane mine never did have spotted tem pattern as a juvie , when I brought him home from another hobbyist.. here is an earlier post , where there was some confusion to his ID . I just refer to him as a Tem ..
