I'll start with an older Diawa SS 5000. This reel was manufactured for only a few years. It was purchased from a garage sale for $5.00. It reminds of the Penn SS series. I mostly collect older Penns but I thought I would throw this one out there.

Yeah, the older senators are great, around here people use them for shore casting for ulua all the time. Often times people will swap out the gearing for a Newell. That way you have the strong body of the senator and fast gearing of the Newell. Here's a 9/0 and a 12/0 older American made. These reels started to be outsource to China in the 90's and continue to be in production there to this day. These reels are from the 60's.

Since the plant in Philly closed all of their reels execpt Internationals are made in china. It's a real shame the American made ones have stood the test of time. Although I will say for $100 the Battle is a great reel

I noticed they re-released the Z series a few years back but I think they have discontinued production once again. Here's one of the older ones.
