Here is a slightly better picture, if you look real close (more apparent in person) the humeral blotch is ocellated and the dorsal fin is edged with red
 
I'm leaning towards Lucius because of the ocellated humeral blotch, rather than Proteus which doesn't seem to have the ocellation. Any opinions?

could be I guess, that would be great. so it could be lepidota, proteus or Lucius now. hah. I didn't realize how slight the differences between some of these species are. not to mention from what I've been reading about lepidota there are a bunch of different regional colour morphs. crazy stuff. I might have to wait until he is mature before posting any more youtube vids if I cant name it correctly. damn. haha
 
Give him some time. It could still turn out to be alta IMO. Although IMO looks like Cr. Sveni to me atm. Nothing wrong with that sveni was my first pike haha
 
Yea I figure I'll just have to wait and see. In the mean time I'm really enjoying this little fish. It's super active and curious, I'm sure when I add him to my display tank he's going to be a terror to any fry that might be swimming around.
 
So I moved the little guy to a different tank and got some decent pictures with my gf's d40 while he/it was showing its stress colours. Not all the best but better than I can get with my phone camera and was able to pick up a lot more of the colour off him.
