Which one is the bigger killer, Hoplias Aimara or Channa Micropeltes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah the stature shown in the video combined with a lenght of 4' could definetly result in a bodyweight of 90-100lbs. I will try to contact the guy and ask him how long it's gotten, if it is still alive. (might already been very old in the vid)

Let us know if he gets back to you, would love to hear about it now

It's a little late but maybe still of interest:

He answerde me and told me that he got a new even bigger one, sadly this sounds like the monster in the vid does not live anyomre, but then again, it might have just been really old.

I asked him about the size of the new bigger one, but got no answer (it's been some weeks now).

Maybe this new one is way over 45lbs, probably not 90lbs but who knows.

Sadly very few people seem to care getting the biggest micropeltes, since they are so much cheaper i guess. Would love to know the weight of the two big guys in the aquarium of berlin:

But i would guess they are a bit lighter then the aimara in the vid on page 3 ...

Hopefully he'll get back to you a second time and say how big the new one is

Sadly i doubt it, has been like 3 months now :(

On the other hand: Anyone here with some connections to asia where they breed micropeltes? Maybe someone know more about the sizes of the biggest ones there?

Because it looks like the aimara in the tank was bigger than anything that had been caught by fishing, so maybe it's the same with micros. Keep in mind: All those records are merly the best some european/americans could find during their trips....

Problem with that is it would never seen an answer. For having seen some videos about the dude having big monsters fighting and posting them on youtube, you see some seriously odd behaviour. Most of them is due to being just dropped in a new tank, with everyone firmly settled in.

Unless you were to have a truly humongous tank, split in two, with both species growing on their side, with no visual but still the exact same water, temps and parameters, this is impossible to reproduce.

And last but not least, those are fishes from completely different ecosystem, I don't think you could make both equally comfortable (or uncomfortable) to the point where you'd have the true answer to your question.

Nonetheless, while the topic is purely hypotetical, this thread has seen some precious informations. :)
