I bought a used 220 gallon tank and stand from craigslist a little while ago. I knew full well that I was going to have to reseal this tank, but I figured I would go ahead and give it a shot. I built a brand new stand for the tank and finally got around to stripping all of the old silicone out. In doing so, my buddy and I accidentally broke off the bottom frame of the tank and upon closer inspection to the outside bottom corners of the tank I stumbled upon a giant chip in the glass that appears to be pretty deep. Instead of trying to find a new 72" x 24" frame, and hoping that some sort of epoxy/silicone will hold, should I just go ahead and ditch this thing? If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated

Hard to see from the pic. Personally I would strip it down and try to reseal it anyway and give it a test somewhere where it won't be damaged by water. If it leaks, you ar only out the cost of silicone and your time. Once you ha cleaned it up better you can try posting pics, I've had multiple glass tanks with chips a I haven't had an issue.

A simple crack in the frame doesn't end a tank. I currently have a 125g up and running with at least three (3) frame cracks last I counted. As long as the cracks are not where the cross braces are. If they are damaged you MUST replace the frame. The chip in the glass might be a kick in the pants but as long as it holds water you should be fine. Do a test fill outside and leave it filled for a few days to a week and see if the chip broke the seal. If it holds everything is all good. If not then you have a few nice panels to build a plywood tank out of!

I think that is what I'm going to do. Should I take off the rest of the bottom frame and scrape all of the old silicone and try to find a replacement frame?

I thought about that, the plywood tank build that is. The cross braces are fully intact. but 3 of the 4 corners are all but falling off the tank. I think I am going to give it a go. Thanks!

If it's the bottom frame just pull it off the last corner, give it a quick scrape clean (tank and frame) and then shoot silicone back in it and set the tank back on/in it.
