Out of idle curiosity, I just offered a scrap of bread to my silver dollars. They took one taste each and went nuts. Granted, they're silver dollars, but they sure seemed to like what I was offering them. I don't intend to feed them bread on a regular basis, of course, I just wanted to see what they'd think of a few crumbs.
Anybody else ever try this?

Bread is just grain and many fish foods aremade with grains...try sqeezing some peas out of ttheir skins into the tank...my fish freak out!
Anything we eat can and often is given to fish...with exceptions of course.
Years ago I made some fish food with what I had in the house...peas, carrots, broccoli, spinach, shrimp....all into the blender and then into some knox gelletin....then into the freazer. I put the concoction into icecube trays and when they froze, dropped into the tank....fish loved it.

Try sticking to wheat bread guys. White sometimes will have small amounts of bleach in it :)

It was actually gluten-free bread due to celiac (wheat intolerance- makes the immune system go whacko) in the family. Wheat bread isn't allowed anywhere near the house. This particular bread uses a blend of tapioca, potato starch, and brown rice instead of wheat flour. Which I'm sure nobody here was particularly interested in hearing.
Anyway, I don't think it has any bleach in it. I found the recipe online. I won't make it a regular part of their diet, anyway, even if they do like it.

I'll have to try feeding them peas, I'm sure they'll love it. Enthusiastic little boogers. They're like piranha when they see food they like.

Hello; I have fed peas for many years. I also will mince a bit of raw catfish or salmon filet and give it to my fish before I cook and eat the rest myself.

Just recalled something that happened a fwe months ago. I was trying to lure a couple of ducks closer with some chips, and I accidentally lured fish instead. I think they smelled the oil. Within five minutes, I had a swarm of shiners and a handful of sunfish swimming around, and a few minutes later a couple of big catfish showed up.

I don't tend to, since I'm greedy and want to eat the food myself haha; occasionally I'll keep a prawn aside or something for my fish, or the odd vegetable.
