I'm in need of a list of fish that can and have been successfully kept with blood parrots In a 75 gallon aquarium. I currently have three 2" BP's and would like to add some other tank mates, community friendly or tolerant if possible.

Corydoras, clown loach, tiger barbs, odessa barbs, giant danio's, any tetras larger than the parrots mouth in my experience works too.

The only problem I've come across is with fish that represent a target for the BP such as silver dollars, or other cichlids that challenge it; of course experiences may differ for others.

I have a 125 gal. tank with blood parrots, ebjd, denison barbs, and angels. Also a handful of corys. They all get along well.

Owning cichlids is trial and error, never cut and dry. All depends on your fish personality. Just have to get what you want, watch closely and adjust fire if needed. I had some BP that were absolute demons and others that acted like mosquito fish.

Keep in mind parrots get up to 9 inches and get territorial but can't do much harm due to their deformity. Texas cichlids would be nice and if you get them to mate you might get some red Texas :)

Thanks man I know this is old but I was just looking through my old posts. Lol I ended up picking up another BP and a small giant gourami I'm growing out in the tank, awesome fish BTW. Now I'm at 6 BPs between the 4 in this tank and my fail of a breeding pair I keep in a 40 gallon breeder I know these males are sterile but I had to get these two for the price on Craigslist $25 for the two their about 6 and 8 inches I might need help. Jk

Just saw this and thought Id respond, ive never done anything like this but If you read my last comment you'll see I have a laying female nice size too where could I get a male Texas or how to tell the male from female apart if I wanted to try this experiment and also what do these guys fry look like any pics?? Id love to try it out just gotta make sure I have room for some of the fry first, also could I resell or release this cichlid after breeding him to my parrot a couple times I live near the San Marcos river I could like literally catch one if possible breed him and then re release him right??

I'll post a pic as soon as I get my tank clean and oh btw I miss measured their about 5.5 and 6.5 inches not 6 and 8 I was guessing before I just pulled out the ruler though so I'm spot on now my bad about that but they look bigger then that in the tank especially the bigger of the 2 he's got some girth to him!
