what should I expect from my LFS?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think it is unreasonable to expect a full refund. But I also think whatever credit he gives you should be thankful for. But i would also hate to have to eat $75.00. But I know what comes with this hobby.

duanes the hi fins were in a 68 degree tank. Didn't quarantine as I just don't have room (three tanks in a small NYC apartment)

Hello; having learned the hard way, I now have a QT. It may be just a 5 or 10 gallon and I keep new fish separate for around 21 days minimum.

I think it probably would've been better to come to some sort of agreement before the purchase was made.. It always sucks losing expensive fish but it's a risk that we all take when buying livestock.. Sorry to hear about the fish bro

Or I could just buy on line and not have these issues.
I'm sorry but I don't see how buying online is better in this situation? You mentioned the fish dying 3 days after purchase, while every online vendor I know only offers live arrival guarantee. So I don't see how you'd be better off with online if they wouldn't refund you either? Even when they do refund for a DOA usually you still lose on the shipping. Unless there's online sites that I've missed who now credit fish they shipped dying after multiple days in a customers tank?

The only benefit I see with online fish stores is being able to source fish that you can't find locally and the ability to shop at home. With how busy life can be these days such a convenience can be beneficial enough to hurt local shops.

As for how your LFS handled the situation I agree with much of what's already been stated. Since I can't say it better then they I'll leave it at that.

I have to say buying on line seems like you are looking for more trouble than what you may or may not save. You have stated you you don't have a QT so these shipped stressed fish could wipeout your tank with ich or worse. Stay with your local shop I think you will be happier in the end. Also on;ine won't help you in an emergency but your LFS can. If they go belly up because everybody shops on line you will have nothing when you really need it. Just my opinion work things out with the LFS and enjoy their business as it sounds like you have in the past.

Liveaquaria offers 14 day survival guarantees. I am sure there are others
I'm truly surprised and stand corrected, I had never encountered a fish site before that had that kind of guarantee. Does the guarantee cover the shipping cost as well?

Since the merger of LiveAquaria and Petco, the times are a changing; see how long their live arrival guarantee lasts.

Petco guarantees fish for 30 days so I would be surprised if LiveAquaria eliminated its guarantee policy.
