Ok folks, this is it. This thread is to show off your DIY skills....let me see your garage tinker master piece...your late-night, can't-sleep, just- had-a-thought creations.
I want to see solutions, improvements, additions and simplifications.

My ideas come when I least expect it and mostly out of necessity.
Recently I was tinkering in the garage and decided I wanted to see what an Eheim Jåger 300w heater looked like inside. The hearer was fried so I took it apart....not much to tell...but I did end up with a very long glass test tube and a light bulb moment happened right there in the garage next to the Christmas decoration boxes....
Not only would this work as an inline heater, but what if I put a single side UVC bulb in there? Would it be worth looking into? The glass is, I'm sure, pyrex or some kind of heat glass....but will it let 254nm uv light through?
This is what I do...tinker and think, think and tinker. Show me what you got!

I think it would be a great idea to run a competition. All participants can arrive at my home and the one who makes the best improvement to my tank can have a case of beer. Materials are purchased at participants expense.

LOL only a case of beer? you should give out a nice bottle of whisky or something
like a yamazaki 18 year + or king george then that'll get my thinking hat on! lol hahaha

I've posted this before, but I'll throwing it in again. I wanted a quiet box filter with plenty of biomedia and here's what popped up in my head:

I had everything lying around except the pump......$5 off EBay

I already spent my disposable income on fish for xmas, but due to popular demand I'm increasing the prize pool. Second place will now get 68c in loose change and a free coffee ticket for Dunkin donuts.

Now that's exactly what I'm talking about!
The potential for that is huge....expanding it to a larger scale is just a matter of a larger container, bigger pump and more media. Perfect example. I wish i had a resource of information like a "website" back in my day....the days of payphones and 2-13 channel tv....hahah!!!
