. I'll represent the Tang side of the fence:
Cyphotilapia gibberosa Zaire Blue (Mikula) fry (10)
Altolamprologus calvus black Congo white pearl (6) juvies
Neolamprologus leleuipi
Lepdiolamprlogus Nkambae
Syno cats
Razzo would you put these with a brown knife fish?

If the knife fish starts having problems in there I can always put it in another tank that I have.

Good catch DJR! Sorry, I've been distracted with trouble in the fish room and my family being sick. I re-read that. My apologies, didn't realize you want to keep the brown knife. To be honest, I don't know much about brown knife fish. I would be VERY hesitant to combine it with African cichlids until I researched it thoroughly (which your trying to do and I missed that - sorry).

Africans like hard water with higher pH. Just a guess, but without knowing better, I would venture to say the brown knife likes much softer water???

I wouldn't.

Well the knife has been in that tank for a while now, and I worked around him when I removed the rock and added the argonite, he seems to really like the new setup. So I don't know, he seems to be doing good as of now, I think I will stock the tank and see how he responds to the rest of the community and if he has problems I will remove him from that tank.

You all got me wondering so i double checked and it looks like the water conditions will be compatible. An ideal setup for the African knifefish would be
Temp: 72 - 82 ° F (22 - 28 ° C)
Hardness: 5 - 15 dGH
pH 6.0 to 8.0

I say that's pretty close to an african cichlid of Lake Malawi.

Temp: 74 - 82
Hardness: 10 - 14 DH 9 - 18 GH
ph 7.4 to 8.4

Looks nice, makes me want to pull my tank out and paint the back glass black.

OK, so the kids had a snow day today, so I took off work, and I got a chance to really dig through some good literature this morning and came across a great piece from the Calgary Aquarium Society about peaceful Lake Malawi community tank. After reading it I think this looks good, what do you guy think about this setup?
