In an effort to not derail Gatling's thread on his beautiful frempongis, I figured I'd start my own thread on my H. fasciatus. Currently my two fish are separated by a divider allowing the smaller individual to heal from it's previous de-finning from the larger one. At this point I'm not sure if the two are of opposite sex, but they did coexist together in a 125 gallon tank for about a month without killing each other. They both started out around 3 inches when I got them and now the smaller is probably around 4, where is the larger is probably a little over five now.

Current photos of smaller one on the mend.

I will try and get more photos of this fish but the camera battery died in the middle of me trying to photograph it.

On a side note, I am absolutely amazed at how fast these fish can severe wounds. My smaller fish lost it's entire tail, deep divides in both dorsal and anal fins and removal of large patches of scales from it's side. Yet all seems to be on the mend. Splits in dorsal and anal fins are almost completely healed and tail is coming back nicely. Oh and it also had it's bottom gill plate bone torn away and that healed as well.

His fins really were clipped but other than that he looks good and should bounce back with no problem.

Yeah I hope you're right. It's definitely feeling a lot better. It's beating on all the buttikoferi and salvini in with it. This fish literally had no tail left. To the point where I was worried it would not grow back at all. I mean it was into the caudal peduncle. Looking at it today, I think it has a good chance of completely regrowing, which is pretty encouraging. I sure would like to get about 6 to 8 more of these guys in order to secure a stable pair, but for now I'm working with what I've got.

I'm curious to know if they might ship. I would like to get about 6 more of these guys. That way I would stand a better chance of getting a pair.
i can ask

Make sure you have spare tanks because they will die fast.

If you have a bigger tank with bigger fish in there, that's where I'd put them.

I use my 180g to make pairs when fish are 3-4". Helps the aggression a lot. Doesn't always stop it but it helps.

If you watch my "respect the Fasciatus" vid, look at the fish after it chases the Butterkoferi... It wants to go attack the other 2 Fasciatus on the right side. It doesn't due to the bigger fish.

Even in a 180g tank, the dominant fish will go out of its way to get another Fasciatus.
This is my biggest male from 2nd WC batch. Got him to a decent size using the 180. Had to pull him tho.

I do have 3 spare 10 gallons I use for QT for things as well as a 46 bow available. My LFS has about a 10" buttikoferi that seems pretty mellow. I'm contemplating purchasing it just as a target fish.
