Significant other "not in the hobby"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My wife hates my hobby but tolerates it to a certain point. Complains when I buy any fish related things. But then again she was the one who bought me my 135 gallon so I think she secretly likes it but won't admit it to me.
Sounds like she loves you and wanted to give you what you want.... But women are inherently insecure creatures and she probably fears becoming fish poor- sit down and agree on a budget that allows you both a certain amount of "play money" then she can't complain cuz it's in the budget

Yeah I agree. I'd be broke if it wasn't for her.

I don't know......there are a lot of women out there, with shoes and purse collection, that rivals the costs of very large aquaria set ups. Its not always the men that are the money "splurgers"

My missus loves my hobby. She even bought a baby RTGG that she fell in love with at the LFS. When i told her the issues we'd eventually have with this fish she offered to pay for the house alterations to accomodate another huge tank to house it (i have to fork out for the tank though). What did she want for valentines?.......a green and yellow phantom plec!!! Me being the old romantic duly obliged.

Oh I didn't mean that- (and shopping addiction might be a different kind of insecurity!) but maybe that's just my experience. My husband and I splurge in opposite ways- for me it's fish- he has the bigger shoe and clothing collection lol!
