New Corner Matten Filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great setup. I said great setup......hello.....can you hear me?.

I use matten filters that cover the full end instead of the corners in a 120 & 100. I had to upgrade air pump to a Pond master AP60 to get sufficient flow. Actually more air than I need so I bleed some off. Great filter with way less maintenance than a cannisters. Swiss Tropicals is a great company to work with.

Very cool seems like there is a decent amount of flow. So the air line is connected to the pvc pipes is that where most of the water movement is comming from ?

Interesting set up. It's an example on how you can build a simple filter without the complication of plumbing a sump system, or cleaning a canister filter. I am wondering how you hold the foam in place, how often do you clean the foam and what will happen when the clogged up foam is compressed.

If you don't like the air bubbling noise, you can easily replace the air lift with a power head. But air lift provides not only water movement, but aeration that is highly beneficial.

Nice job on the corner HMF setup!!

What is the reason you added the 90 degree fitting to the outlet of the air lift? I find that if the outlet end is mostly submerged but still has a space at the top above the water line, it is very quiet.

Mine have both been up over a year without cleaning. When the water level is lower on the air lift side, time to give them a squeeze. That's all the cleaning they need.

It was just to test it out in the beginning but then I ended up putting them all on, but I will take a look at it again to see how the water flows out of it with it off. I would like to in the end make it quiet but that's a month down the road, the noise doesn't bother me and I like the disturbance it creates :)
