Baby Oscar only eats pellets

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you've got it, go ahead and use it, sparingly. otherwise you're just wasting the animal's lives that went into making it, the energy used to make and transport it, and the energy and materials used in producing the packaging.
it's just like your dietary requirements. a cheeseburger every now and then isn't that big of an issue, eat them all the time and it takes a toll on you and the rest of the environment.

Thanks for the reply. Now I feel much better knowing that I am not going to waste all those high nutritious food. Yeah, I would probably feed it to my Oscar once every few weeks. But I do not know when he/she is going to finish all of it since the Oscar is so little.

Now the Oscar has the 75G for him/herself. He/she is only 2.5" long. I am so itchy to add a few more fish into the tank.

How can I make this Oscar grow faster? I do 80% w/c once every two days and feed twice a day. Here is the list of food I feed him:
- California Black worm (Deep Freezed Dried)
- Tetra Colorbit pellets
-Omega One sinking pellets
- Then my ground beef seafood mix once a while (Moving forward).

There are a lot of people mentioned about Chiclid Pro-Gold pellets from Hikari. I think it's protein level is not as high as some other fish food. I believe the deep freeze dried BW has almost 50% in protein.

Oscars are known to grow super fast. If you're keeping the water where it should be then you just need to be patient.
Don't look at protein levels, look at ingredients.

I bought my Oscar at 1.5" two weeks ago and now he/she is at 2.5". Yeah, I need to be patient.

What other ingredients should I look other than protein level?

I know the Omega One pellets has whole Salmon fish listed as one of the ingredients. While Tetra Colorbits stated fish meal..

And that's about as fast a growth rate as you're going to get... Which is nothing to complain about lol.

You wanna make sure wheat and corn is a far down in the ingredient list as possible.

Oscar is tough. My three 7" discus swimming over to him/her when I first added the Oscar to the tank two days ago. The little guy immediately set to a defensive postural. It was so funny.

The discus don't bother him. But whenever they swimming close to the baby Oscar. The Oscar started stand up and try to defend him/herself. It was funny to see.

I highly recommend for you to throw out the Tetra food and replace it with one of the NLS pellets

Your fish grew 1" in two weeks, going from 1.5 - 2.5", an increase of 66% in one week!, and you expect it to grow even faster? Maybe your expectations are somewhat optimistic?

Yeah, my expectation is unrealistic. I like big fish!

Believe me, it will get big, and quicker than you think, oscars are probably the fastest growing fish in the hobby, pretty cool as well, you won't be disappointed
