it was not bloat. If you had a bloated fish and did the massage would have not have gotten the discharge
Oh OK, what do you think it was then?

I'm really confused as to what's going on...I just want to know what it was and how to treat incase I see it again

I do believe she was egg bound due to her history, the breeding tube protruding and the discharge upon massaging her. Other things I think it could have been where infected ovaries, tumor or infected cyst.

You have two openings on the back end of a fish. You have the anus and vent. naturally the anus being for the GI track and vent for reproduction. For the most part discharge from the anus is from the GI tract and vent reproductive system.

What we call bloat is very tricky because it can be a huge range of things. The fish typically appear bloated due to fluid build (ascites) in their abdomen cavity. A lot of things can cause this such as parasite infections, bacterial infections, liver disease, kidney disease and many others.

Gently massaging a fish with bloat should not cause any discharge from them. Even if you where to cause damage and hemorrhage it would most likely go into the body cavity.

The fact that you got the discharge you did and I am making the assumption it came out of the vent really argues that it is related to the ovaries.

Awesome explanation, thanks muchly, from reading that she definitely had problems with her lady parts.

Such a shame, she was a beautiful fish.

Thanks again
