  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One 50 gal tank with 4 filamnet barbs 3 redhook luna silver dollars 1 bn pleco. Been in the hobby since 1968 always kept only one tank from 10 to 180 at one time or another. Enjoy the hobby a lot more with just one tank. 1 dark haired lady sometime who owns her own house just the way we like it and an English bulldog named Johnnie

I used to have 7 different tanks from 20 to 75 gallons up and running. Now I have one 150 and enjoy the hobby much more with just one tank. Also have a yellow lab and two cats.

A Long time ago I had 17 aquariums... back in the 80's when I was breeding african cichlids. The aquariums were smaller, with the biggest around 120 gallons. Got divorced and sold them all off.

Fast forward to the early 2000s and I ended up with 10 aquariums. Biggest being a 180 gallon, then there was a 120, 60, dual 55s, and some smaller ones. Was getting another divorce after 16 years (is it the aquariums?) and advertised them on Craigslist for free.... come and get them. By the end of the following day everything was gone... aquariums, food, hoses, air pumps, filters, all supplies. I had nothing aquarium related left.

Over the last 18 months I have gotten back into aquariums again... in a bigger way than ever. Currently have a 700, 300, 200, 75, & 65.

Would you say that you enjoy it better with more tanks or less? You're the kind of guy I really wanted to hear from, with a few big tanks. My plan is a few systems so that water changes are easier, maybe 2 smaller tanks on their own, a small ~2000 gallon pond, a large saltwater FOWLR system, medium reef system, large planted system, large monster system, etc. Probably 6 or 7 systems in total so that water changes aren't so bad.

I miss them now. I had over 125 tanks totaling a bit over 33Kgals in my hatchery in MS. I've sold and given away most of my tanks and only have a 420, 300, 100, 90 hex, 2 x 75, and a small reef tank now. I also have 10 450s and a 200 chilled lobster tank not in use at this time.

I enjoy having fewer aquariums that are larger. A water change on the 700 is not much more involved than a water change on the 75, just takes longer. I would much rather have the 700 gallon than seven 100 gallon aquariums, if that makes any sense.

One thing that has really helped is switching all of my aquariums to torpedo sand instead of gravel. It seldom needs to be vacuumed, saves time and effort.
