  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes what I meant was the notching of the standpipes (not the U-tubes).
If water depth in the overflow box, and U-tube are too close, bubbles are a siphon break problem.
The reason I brought it up, was in the photo, the stand pipe height in the box, looked a bit short.
But that might be a simple illusion.

they arent set in the bulk heads but to be honest there isn't much room for them anyway those bulk heads are a tight fit. I'll get another pic later with the u tube in would appreciate your input

I spent the $, bought 2x 1.5" Cepex true union (full port) ball valves for my inlet and outlet. Worth the $, each time I turn the lever handle.

Another option is to connect a true union between the pump and rest of the (PVC) pluming. This way, when you have a need to remove the return pump, it comes out with half of the union, rather than additional pipe. Functionally what you have will work, just more convenient with a true union.

Didnt even think of that. You know im a rookie lol

Good to see that Engineering Degree is working for you. Project looking good.

Yes my degree was earned at MFK University

Glad you joined the site. You'll like it hear lots of areas to browse

So the stupid sock holder contraption works.

I agree. Worth the money for sure. I just ordered 5 more 1" Cepex ST true union ball valves from US Plastics in preparation for plumbing our new 265 gallon tank. I used true union ball valves on our 300 gallon tank and can adjust the flow manually for feeding and the Cepex ball valves turn as easily as the day they were installed.

I see now the concept now, having the U-tube flow into a separate compartment with higher walls than the overflow standpipes should prevent bubble build up, and siphon break. Looks like a very well thought out and designed over flow box.

Looking good but geez that sock contraption takes up so much room, you gonna be able to fit all your bio and the return pump in there?
